The 2019 Punta Mita Tail of the Whale Member Guest
The 8th edition of The Punta Mita Tail of the Whale Member Guest golf tournament took place last week with 57 teams. Perfect weather conditions greeted our members and guests for practice rounds early in the week. Thursday offered an optional skins game followed by the opening cocktail at the Pacifico Beach Club – a beautiful set up and setting by the Beach Club teams, with some of our favorite local restaurants presenting the evening offerings. We thank Tuna Blanca, Babelas, Faro de Mita, Hectors Kitchen, and our own teams for preparing and serving the evening.
Friday day 1 began with breakfast in the Tau Hospitality tent, the group photo (which we hope you all have copies of) and off to play under a new Quota format. Lunch followed with live entertainment, and for 11 daring teams the Tailgunner Shootout brought some late afternoon fun and competition. Teams Emberson, Latham, and Hollern finished 1st through 3rd (respectively) and it seems this new addition is here to stay. During the day non golfers enjoyed a Cooking Class by Chef David in Las Marietas, while Friday evening was free this year for Members to entertain and show their guests a little more of Punta Mita.
Saturday moving day was indeed a complete one with each team vying to win their flights or a wild card spot in the shootout. New for 2019 was a Ladies Shootout…which is seems destined to remain part of our Tail of the Whale event. We congratulate all the flight winners!
The shootout proved to be entertaining for all attending on this beautiful Saturday afternoon in paradise. The Four Seasons Team served a delicious dinner for the Awards Dinner, as we congratulated our 2019 Champions: Lynda Gibbons retained her title with new partner Susie Law and our new Men’s Division Champions Hal Martin & John Nowak earned a hard-fought victory with 2 sudden death playoff holes.
The introduction of a new award provided additional sentiment to the Awards Dinner evening—the Antonoff Trophy. Dermott O’Flanagan & Eamon McAvinue are our inaugural winners! For the complete list of results please click on the link.
Upon concluding we sincerely thank John McIntyre , Shane Eble, and their respective teams for impeccable organization and for presenting the course in such great condition – bravo !!! And lastly but by no means least a special acknowledgment of gratitude to our Member Ron Budacz, who has been instrumental over the last few years in elevating our Member Guest to where it is today – a big gracias Ron from all of us involved and surely from all your fellow members.
We look forward to welcoming all who participated back in 2020 – save the dates Thursday 30th January until Saturday 2nd February 2020 and for those members who could not make it this year we encourage you to come and join in the fun – it is surely a memorable few days.
